Jack-knifed semi leads to Interstate 57 blockage

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - A jack-knifed truck tractor-semi trailer caused the closure of southbound lanes on Interstate 57 for about 90 minutes Tuesday morning.

Illinois State Police say they responded to a jack-knifed truck tractor-semi trailer on I-57 southbound at milepost 235.  The driver lost control on the wet roadway and crashed into the guardrail, causing the vehicle to jack-knife.

The vehicle blocked both southbound lanes for about 90 minutes.  The Champaign Fire Department also responded to contain a minor diesel fuel leak.  The truck tractor driver contacted the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to inform them of the spill.  The semi was then towed from the scene.

The driver was issued a citation for driving too fast for road conditions.
