Champaign Police Department warning residents of recent burglaries

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department is asking residents to keep their apartments locked at all times after receiving multiple reports of burglaries occurring at apartments in the area.

Police say twenty such reports have been filed since August 15, all indicating that residences were entered illegally and electronic items, such as laptops, were stolen.  Officers are noting that in a majority of these cases, the residence was left unlocked.  All of the burglaries have occurred within the campus district.

In response to these crimes, Champaign police officers will be conducting extra patrols.  Residents are urged to keep their residences and vehicles locked at all times, especially overnight.

Anyone with information on this recent string of burglaries is urged to call the Champaign Police Department at (217) 351-4545 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.
