1 injured in Elgin house explosion

ELGIN - A northern Illinois man is in intensive care after an explosion at his home Monday night.

According to the Elgin Fire Department, firefighters found the resident on the front yard when they arrived around 10:00 p.m. on Monday.  Officials also say the fire was under control within 10 minutes.

The front and east walls of the home were destroyed in the blast, and the home's windows were shattered.  Damage is estimated at roughly $150,000.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.  His identity was not immediately known.

Fire officials say they are still investigating the cause of the explosion.
