VANDALIA - In an update to a story WAND brought to you yesterday, Illinois State Police have apprehended an inmate who escaped from Vandalia Correctional Center Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman Tom Shaer says that Marcus Battice, 21, was found walking on a gravel frontage road next to Interstate 70 at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, approximately three-and-a-half miles from the minimum-security correctional center.  Battice was taken into custody without incident by Illinois State Police, and was positively identified by the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Battice will be transferred to the maximum-security Pontiac Correctional Center after being examined at Vandalia Correctional Center's Health Care Unit.
