Man injured after jumping from second floor of eastern Illinois courthouse

CHARLESTON - According to Coles County authorities, a man jailed on a drug charge injured himself when he jumped from the second floor of an eastern Illinois courthouse Thursday morning.

Coles County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Kerry Whitley says Anthony McFarland, 53, was injured when he landed on the building's main floor.  Whitley says that McFarland was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and was expected to recover.

McFarland was among a group that deputies escorted to the courthouse for scheduled court appearances.  McFarland had been arrested and jailed last week for a methamphetamine precursor charge.
