Champaign police announce arrest made in 2 robberies

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department has announced that a suspect in the First Midwest Bank robbery that occurred on September 15 and the Illinois Arcade robbery that occurred on September 12 has been arrested.

Authorities say that Michael Alexander, 37, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 22.  Champaign police say they received several Crime Stopper tips which led to Alexander's identification, as well as additional leads that aided the investigation.

Alexander is currently being held at the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis for a preliminary charge of aggravated robbery in Champaign County.  Alexander is also being held on a Vigo County (Indiana) arrest warrant for robbery, and an Indiana Department of Corrections parole arrest warrant.  His bond is set at $1 million.
