$50K To Help Hungry & Kids

Decatur – Checks were handed out Thursday to 10 organizations/programs addressing hunger or serving children in Decatur.

$50,000 was donated by the Howard Buffett Foundation.  They money was distributed in $5,000 increments by the Young Philanthropists Giving Circle.  The Giving Circle picked the 10 groups out of 22 applications.

Among those receiving money was Parsons Elementary School.  The school runs a “BackPack” program providing students and their families food on weekends.  The Northeast Community Fund, which feeds the hungry by providing groceries, also received a check.
