DECATUR - Beginning Monday,. September 29, the Water Services Division will begin flushing fire hydrants to remove harmless materials that collect in the water mains.
During "flushing" hours, people connected to the city water system may experience discolored water and lower than normal water pressure. City officials say the water will be perfectly safe to drink; however, residents are advised to wait until the water clears up before drinking the water, washing clothes, or washing dishes.
Flushing will occur between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
The general area that could be affected is located east of Lake Decatur and north of U.S. Route 36. The area will include the Baker Woods, Bayview, Country Club, Country Manor, Lakeridge, North Fork, and Shorewood neighborhoods.
