Springfield man sentenced to 9 years in heroin death

SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield man who pleaded guilty to drug-induced homicide and drug delivery charges has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Gary Clark was sentenced for supplying the heroin that caused the death of Daniel Buehrle, 43, in 2012.  According to County State's Attorney John Milhiser, Clark acted as a middleman in heroin dealings.  However, Milhiser says that there is no indication that Clark intended to do harm.

Clark's mother says his drug problem developed after taking opiates given to him by the U.S. Army to treat injuries sustained from a fall while serving in Europe.  Clark apologized to Buehrle's family during sentencing.
