Macon County Sheriff's Department investigating vandalism at Niantic Park

 MACON COUNTY - The Macon County Sheriff's Department is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying an individual or individuals responsible for damaging a statue at a park.

According to authorities, between 8:00 p.m. on September 20 and 11:30 a.m. on September 21, an unknown suspect or suspects damaged the concrete "Infinity Cross" statue at Niantic Park.  Authorities say it appears that bodily force was used to bend the top of the statue, causing the concrete to break away from the rebar supports.  The statue is valued at $600.

The Macon County Sheriff's Department says there are no suspects at this time.  Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (217) 423-TIPS.
