Man sentenced to 12 years for hiding gun used in 2013 shooting

SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield man who admitted to trying to hide a gun used in a 2013 fatal shooting has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Richard Lawuary, 23, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and obstructing justice in August.

Lawuary was charged with trying to hide a gun that police say was used by another man to kill Charles Rice Jr., 38, in 2013.  Deputies say the gun was found in a stove next to the window that Lawuary tried to escape through.

Lawuary will serve the 12-year sentence consecutively to a previous six-and-a-half year sentence he received for violating probation.
