State-owned airplanes to be relisted on online auction site

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Central Management Services is planning to relist six state-owned airplanes on an online auction site after a previous attempt to sell the planes resulted in only two being purchased.

According to agency spokeswoman Alka Nayyar, the auction for the unsold planes will close on December 15.

When Illinois Governor Pat Quinn approved the 2015 state budget in June, he ordered that half of the state's airplanes be sold in an effort to save money.  The planes that are up for sale have an appraised value of $4 million.

However, bidders interested in purchasing the planes will need to meet a base price.  For instance, the minimum bid accepted for a 1999 Beechcraft King Air 250 was about $2.5 million.
