DECATUR - Decatur police say a bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car on Thursday evening.

Police say at about 8:08 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash at the corner of Grand and Main streets in Decatur.  Upon arriving, officers found a bicyclist who had been struck by a car near the intersection.  The bicyclist was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Decatur police say their initial investigation indicates the cyclist was traveling east on Grand when the car, who was traveling west on Grand, turned left onto Main street and struck the bicyclist.  Police say that visibility at the time of the accident was hampered due to heavy rain.

The driver of the car was not impaired, and officers are investigating if the bicyclist was impaired at the time of the collision.

The collision is still under investigation by the Decatur Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation Team.  We will bring you more details as they become available.
