University of Illinois entomology professor to receive national honor

CHAMPAIGN - A University of Illinois entomology professor will be awarded the nation's highest honor for achievement in science and technology later this year.

May Berenbaum was one of a limited number of recipients named to receive the National Medal of Science.  Berenbaum has been a faculty member at the University of Illinois since 1980.

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Phyllis Wise says Berenbaum's work has "fundamentally changed" what's known about the role insects play in human life.

Berenbaum also created the annual Insect Fear Film Festival, which features films, as well as an insect petting zoo and insect art contest.
