Collision between 2 truck-tractors closes one lane of I-57

ILLINOIS - Illinois State Police say a crash between two truck tractor-semi trailers shut down a northbound lane on I-57 for several hours Monday afternoon.

Police say at about 12:29 p.m. on October 6, troopers responded to reports of a crash on I-57.  Upon arriving, troopers say they found a collision between 2 tractor-trailers near milepost 38.

Troopers say both vehicles were traveling north and were traveling in the right hand lane, one in front of the other.  The first vehicle, drove by Philip Leech, 36, collided with the rear of the semi-trailer of the second vehicle.  Leech's vehicle then crossed the left lane of traffic and came to rest in the center median.

Troopers say both Leech and the other driver were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.  One northbound lane on I-57 was closed while crews worked to clear the area.  Leech was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
