Officials say fire likely started by child playing with lighter

BLOOMINGTON - Fire officials say a fire at a Bloomington apartment complex was likely started by a child playing with a lighter.

A woman, who lived with her four children ages three to 12, was renting the home.  According to deputy fire chief Les Siron, the fire started when one of the children began to play with a lighter near a closet.

Officials say the fire caused about $80,000 in damage, and the apartment next door sustained water and smoke damage.  However, no injuries were reported.

The woman did not have renters insurance.  The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
