State officials attend Illinois Supreme Court rededication ceremony
SPRINGFIELD - State lawmakers, Supreme Court justices, attorneys, and judges from local, state, and federal levels gathered at the Illinois Supreme Court building Tuesday evening for a rededication ceremony.
The ceremony follows the completion of a $16 million renovation to the building. According to Chief Justice Rita Garman, she and her colleagues are happy to be back in the building. Other attendees also shared their excitement over the renovations.
Former Illinois Governor and current chairman of the court's preservation commission James Thompson says he was thrilled to be back where his career began 55 years ago.
A commemorative plaque was also placed next to the original plaque, which dedicated the building in 1908.
