Woman accused in daughter's death on trial for second time

MARION - A southern Illinois woman accused of killing her three-year-old daughter six years ago will stand trial for a second time.

On Tuesday, jury selection began for the trial of Karrae Starr, 24.  Starr has pleaded not guilty to murder charges stemming from the 2008 death of her daughter, Bianca Starr.

According to prosecutors, Starr covered Bianca's nose and mouth with the intent to kill her.  Bianca was later found unresponsive by Herrin police officers who responded to a 911 call.  The girl was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

In 2010, Starr was sentenced to 32 years in prison after being convicted by jurors.  However, that verdict was thrown out on appeal.
