Illinois man in custody accused of conspiring to pay off witness

ROCK ISLAND - A northwestern Illinois man who is in custody for aggravated discharge of a firearm and possessing a weapon as a felon has been charged with conspiring to pay off a witness to the crimes.

Deontay Hearn, 28, is now faces a felony charge of communicating with a witness in addition to his previous charges.  Warrants have been issued for three other accused of conspiring with Hearn.

According to prosecutors, Hearn fired a gun in the direction of the witness in July.  Prosecutors also say the four conspiracy suspects allegedly offered to pay the witness if he either testified that Hearn didn't shoot at him, or didn't show up to court.

Hearn remains in custody at the Rock Island County Jail.
