2014-2015 Fighting Illini On Display At Media Day

CHAMPAIGN -- The Fighting Illini men's basketball team took center stage this afternoon at Illinois Basketball Media Day. 11 players are back from last year's team that made the 2nd round of the NIT.

"It's the deepest team we've had in the three years (I've been here)", said Head Coach John Groce.

Senior PG Ahmad Starks and Junior SG Aaron Cosby are two of those returning players. Both players are eager to make their Illini debuts, after having to sit out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"It was a long year for me not playing," said Cosby. "...but I definitely got better, learning the system, and I'm ready to go."

Cosby and Starks are considered sharpshooters. Groce hopes they can help improve an offense that finished 2nd to last in field goal percentage last season.

"I think this year we're going to take major steps forward on that side of the ball," said Groce.

Starks knows he'll need to be a leader on the court, with fellow senior Tracy Abrams out for the season with a torn ACL.

"There's more pressure on me to be a vocal leader, that's something I must do," said Starks.

The Illini open up the season November 7th, with an exhibition against Quincy.
