Central Illinois man assisting in car accident struck and killed by vehicle
WASHINGTON - Authorities say a central Illinois man who was helping at the scene of a car accident was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.
According to Washington Police Chief Don Volk, Brian Epping, 55, got out of his car to check on two people involved in a traffic accident at an intersection in Washington Saturday evening. Volk says during this time, Epping was struck by another vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man.
On Monday, Tazewell County Coroner James Baldi said Epping was pronounced dead at the scene of the accidents.
Volk says the fatal accident is under investigation, and that the area isn't well lit. No charges have been reported in the fatal accident.
The two individuals in the first accident received treatment at an area hospital before being released.
