Decatur police arrest man suspected in robbery of elderly woman

DECATUR - A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Decatur police for allegedly breaking into his grandmother's house and stealing $20 during the summer of 2014.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, is currently being held in jail on preliminary charges of criminal damage to property and robbery in connection with the July 20 incident.

According to police, the 76-year-old grandmother was sleeping on her couch when the suspect and an unidentified woman broke into her house.  Authorities say after being denied money, the suspect forcibly searched the grandmother's pockets, and took $20 and a bottle of prescription anxiety medication.

Authorities then say the suspect left the grandmother's home after she pressed a security alarm.

The suspect's bond has been set at $50,000.
