Rantoul police looking for armed robbery suspect

RANTOUL - The Rantoul Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred October 15.

Authorities say at about 12:24 p.m., Rantoul Police Department officers were dispatched to a Super 8 Hotel for a report of an armed robbery.  Upon arriving at the scene, officers were told by an employee that a person had entered through a side door on the west side of the building and approached the counter.  After the employee walked behind the front desk, the suspect pulled a silver handgun from a brown satchel.  Police say the suspect pointed the gun at the employee and demanded money.

After taking the money, the suspect left the building through the same door he entered, and walked southbound towards an Arby's.  The suspect is described as being a male, about 40 years old, heavy set, and standing between 5'9" and 5'11".  The man was wearing a tan baseball hat, dark-colored coat, dark-colored shirt, and dark jeans.
