Short staffing poses challenges for Springfield VA clinic

Posted:
SPRINGFIELD - According to the chief of federal outpatient clinics for veterans in central Illinois, problems with meeting patient demands at the Springfield clinic is related to short-staffing.

Dr. Dexter Hazlewood, chief of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Illiana Health Care System's outpatient clinics, says the problems stem from the departure of two doctors from the Springfield facility.

Hazlewood says the clinic is "in a very, very challenged position," but adds that he doesn't believe that any patients' conditions have worsened due to the delays in appointments.
