Man Charged with Drug Possession After Shooting


 CHAMPAIGN - Days after a man was shot and killed in front of a house in Champaign, a man who was staying at that house faces drug charges.

Harvey Blakely, 29, was charged with unlawful possession with intent deliver heroin and cocaine. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Police say Jermel M. Hedrick, 24, was shot and killed inside a truck in front of the house early Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home; several hours later, they say they found cocaine and heroin under a mattress.
