Early-morning crash causes temporary lane closure on I-74

DANVILLE - Illinois State Police officials say a truck-tractor semi-trailer crashed on Interstate 74 near the Bowman exit in Danville Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the one-vehicle crash happened at about 4:44 a.m.  The vehicle was traveling westbound on Interstate 74 near milepost 216 when the driver, 29-year-old Michael Brock, fell asleep at the wheel.  The vehicle went off the right side of the road, causing Brock to wake up and over-corrected to the left.  The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, went off the left side of the road, struck the median barrier cables, and overturned.

ISP officials say both westbound lanes were blocked due to the crash.  A passenger in the vehicle, a 39-year-old male, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital in Danville.

Emergency crews quickly arrived on scene to clear out debris and open the roadway.  Motorists are advised to use caution, yield to clean up crews and emergency vehicles, and to seek alternative routes until the debris is cleared.
