Decatur Park District receives 2 awards

DECATUR - The Decatur Park District received two awards at the Illinois Association of Park District's "Best of the Best" Awards Gala on October 24.

Decatur Park District officials say the group was awarded the "2014 Partnership" and "2014 Good Sportsmanship" awards.

The park district's "Partnership Award" recognizes non-governmental organizations that have collaborated with a park district in a significant manner, leading to the start of a project, initiative, or campaign that enhanced residents' quality of life.  The Decatur Park District earned the award through its partnership with Millikin University, which led to multiple collaborations between the two, including the construction of the Decatur Indoor Sports Center.

The "Good Sportsmanship Award" recognizes citizen volunteers who serve as coaches for park district or special recreation agency youth athletics programs.  Those coaches must possess good leadership skills and display good sportsmanship.  The Decatur Park District's Staley Striders Coach Mike Sanders was recognized for the leadership and good sportsmanship he has shown throughout his years with the team.
