IDPH officials prepare for second round of medical marijuana applicants

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Public Health will soon begin to accept medical marijuana registry card applications from patients whose last names start with M through Z.

Officials say they have been processing thousands of applications from individuals whose last names begin with A through L.  Other potential applicants have been asked to wait until November 1 to apply.

In order to participate in the state's medical marijuana pilot program, most patients must obtain written certification from their doctor.  Military veterans who receive Veterans Affairs care will not need a doctor's written certification because VA doctors are federal employees, and as such they are not permitted to recommend controlled substances.
