4 dead, 1 injured after train collides with SUV

VANDALIA - Authorities say four people have died and one person was injured as a result of a Thursday night crash involving an SUV and a train.

According to authorities, the crash occurred in Vandalia on 6th Street and Main Street, when the SUV attempted to cross the railroad tracks while the lights were on and the stop arm was down.

Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen says three related individuals, an adult woman and two children, died in the collision.  The driver of the SUV, 35-year-old Crystal Anna, was pronounced dead on Friday.

Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray also says the collision happened just before the start of Vandalia's Halloween Parade.  The parade went ahead as planned.

This incident is currently under the investigation of the Illinois State Police and Fayette County Coroner's Office.  We will bring you updates as they become available.
