New Information: Beardstown Baby Death

BEARDSTOWN - WAND News has learned the Cass County State's Attorney's Office is preparing preliminary charges of Child Endangerment against Jose M. Nieto-Roman, 28, of Beardstown in connection with a child that died Friday.  As WAND News reported Friday, police responded to a request for medical assistance at a Food Mart on the 600 block of Wall Street.  When they arrived, they found a mother with a severely injured infant. The child was transported to a hospital in Rushville, where he was pronounced dead.  Police say the child was reportedly in custody of the mother's live in boyfriend, who was not present when police arrived at the Food Mart.  An autopsy on the eight month old victim was conducted in McLean County. The preliminary results of the autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to the victim. Additional tests are pending, and will not be available for some time.

The live in boyfriend, Jose M. Nieto-Roman, 28 of Beardstown, Illinois, is currently at a local hospital in serious condition from self-inflicted wounds. Nieto-Roman is not medically able to be detained or interviewed at this time. The Cass County State's Attorney's Office is preparing preliminary charges of Child Endangerment.

The investigation is continuing by the Beardstown Police Department, the Cass County State's Attorney's Office, the Illinois State Police Zone 4 and Crime Scene Services.
