Illinois' economy shows steady growth in October

CHAMPAIGN - According to a University of Illinois economist, Illinois' economic growth had slow but steady improvement in October.

On Monday, economist Fred Giertz said the October reading of University of Illinois' Flash Index was 106.6.  The Flash Index measures Illinois' economic growth and contraction, and any number above 100 means the state experienced some level of economic growth.

In a news release, Giertz said the slow recovery of Illinois' economy has been advancing for more than two years.  Giertz also said the economy's improvement has started to show in Illinois' unemployment rate.  Officials say the state's unemployment rate has dropped for seven consecutive months, to 6.6 percent in September.
