High-speed rail work delayed until spring

NORMAL - According to Illinois Department of Transportation officials, infrastructure work for high-speed rail in central Illinois will be delayed until spring.

IDOT spokeswoman Paris Ervin says the delay is due to inclement weather.  Infrastructure work in Normal was originally scheduled to begin this fall, but now crews will install quad and pedestrian gates, upgrade siding tracks, and improve rail crossings next year.

Normal Public Works Director Wayne Aldrich says the delay could work better with a plan to construct an overhead walkway at Uptown Station.  Aldrich also says bids could be submitted this month, and may be awarded at the start of 2015.
