Former U.S. Representative Lane Evans dies

CHICAGO - Lane Evans, a former United States Representative from Illinois, has died after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

According to the former lawmaker's former congressional staffer and legal guardian Michael Malmstrom, Evans passed away at the age of 63 in an East Moline nursing home.

Evans served in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to being elected to serve Illinois' 17th District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982.  As a Member of Congress, Evans fought for veterans' rights, including supporting legislation that would help individuals exposed to the chemical Agent Orange.

Evans would serve 12 terms before leaving the office in January 2007 due to deteriorating health.

Evans is survived by his three brothers.
