Central Illinois man faces charges for allegedly threatening meter reader

URBANA - Authorities say a central Illinois man faces multiple charges for allegedly threatening a meter reader while holding a handgun.

On Wednesday, James Bantz, 55, was charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault, as well as felony intimidation.

According to Urbana Sgt. Dan Morgan, the meter reader told authorities that Bantz came out of his house holding a gun, yelling at the meter reader to turn the power back on.  Morgan says the meter reader then immediately left in his truck before calling police.

Morgan also says that officers recovered three guns that Bantz legally owned.

Bantz is currently being held on $75,000 bond.
