Illinois woman receives probation for involuntary manslaughter

EDWARDSVILLE - An Illinois woman who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter will spend two years on probation.

According to authorities, Andrew Birch, 23, was fatally shot when Katelyn Stapleton, 27, and Birch, were handling a gun at Birch's home five days before his birthday.

Stapleton entered her guilty plea on Wednesday.  She received a 10-month prison sentence, but a judge credited her for the 10 months she has already spent in jail since the February 2014 shooting.
