Illini Offense Shines in 'Secret' Scrimmage Against Dayton

CHAMPAIGN-- The Fighting Illini Men's Basketball Team is set to take on Quincy Friday night in a season-opening exhibition game, but it actually won't be their first game against another opponent. The team competed in a scrimmage Sunday night against Dayton. The team spoke about the scrimmage at practice today, with senior point guard Ahmad Starks saying it was a good preseason challenge for the team.

"Doesn't really count or anything, but it was definitely a good test playing against a competitive team that went to the elite 8 last year," Said Starks.

Head Coach John Groce says their defense was a little shaky in the scrimmage, but he was impressed with how the offense looked.

"It was the best we've shot the ball since the first year," said Groce. "We shot it really well, had multiple guys make shots, had 5 double-figure scorers."

Illinois and Quincy will tip off Friday at 7 pm at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
