A homeless shelter for veterans needs your help. Spring Street Veterans Renaissance Center has been helping veterans transition into society for more than two years. Now, the center is having trouble keeping food in the pantry. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs covers the building's major bills and provides the basic furniture for each bedroom. Food and household items, however, are funded by community donations, which have been decreasing.
"So far we've always made sure there was plenty," said building manager, Stanley Hughes. "But, without continuing help, I can not continue to say that's going to be the case.
The center is holding an open house on Tuesday, at 209 W. Scarritt Street in Springfield. All are encouraged to attend and donate money.. food.. and toiletries. It runs from 2 - PM.
