Recovery efforts from last year's tornadoes still ongoing

WASHINGTON - American Red Cross officials say recovery efforts are still ongoing in parts of Illinois that were struck by deadly tornadoes a year ago.

On Tuesday, Red Cross officials said nearly 500 active cases related to last year's tornadoes are still being addressed.  Officials also report that some residents have homes in need of repair, soil contamination, and ongoing mental health issues.

Last year's storms resulted in the deaths of more than half a dozen people and hundreds of homes being damaged or destroyed.  According to Red Cross officials, nearly 90 percent of the money donated to the not-for-profit relief group has either been spent or committed to be spent in coming recovery projects.
