Chairman of University of Illinois' Board of Trustees to leave position

CHICAGO - The chairman of the University of Illinois' Board of Trustees has announced he plans to leave his position when his term comes to an end in January.

During a Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, Chairman Christopher Kennedy said he's sure that a new trustee will be appointed to replace him when Governor-elect Bruce Rauner takes office in January.  Kennedy is a Democrat, and was appointed to his position by Democratic Governor Pat Quinn in 2009.

According to University of Illinois spokesman Tom Hardy, Kennedy wrote to Rauner, stating that he knew that his time on the board is ending, and recommended that Rauner keep Ed McMillan on the board when his term ends next year.

McMillan is a Republican businessman who was also appointed by Quinn.
