Former school bus driver sentenced to 12 years in prison

SPRINGFIELD - A former Taylorville school bus driver who pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Authorities say James Owens, 44, received his sentence on Monday.  In addition to his prison sentence, Owens was ordered to remain on supervised release for 20 years after his release.

According to U.S. Attorney James Lewis' office, Owens pleaded guilty on February 24, 2014 to enticing minors to engage in sexual activity.  Authorities say the offenses occurred from August 2012 to May 2013 and from December 2012 to February 2013.

Owens has remained in custody since his arrest in May 2013.
