Southern Illinois man charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI

MURPHYSBORO - Authorities say a Carbondale man has been charged for allegedly causing a wreck while he was drunk resulting in the death of a bicyclist.

Jackson County prosecutors say Seth Loyd, 22, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless homicide.

Authorities say the charges allege that Loyd's vehicle struck Matthew Dierker, 33, while he was riding his bicycle on November 14.  Dierker was transported to a Carbondale hospital before being taken to one in St. Louis, where he died of his injuries the next day.

Loyd is scheduled to be back in court on December 11.
