University of Illinois hires new president

CHAMPAIGN - The University of Illinois has announced that Timothy L. Killeen, vice chancellor of research at the State University of New York, has been chosen to become the university's next president.

University officials made the announcement on Wednesday.  Killeen will become president after current president Bob Easter retires in June.

Killeen was previously a faculty member and administrator at the University of Michigan, and also worked at the National Science Foundation.  He plans to make appearances at University of Illinois campuses in Chicago, Springfield, and Champaign-Urbana on Wednesday.
