Illinois superintendent named to national education council

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Board of Education officials say the state's superintendent of schools has been named to the Council of Chief State School Officers' board of directors.

Officials say Christopher Koch was chosen to join the national education council's board of directors last week during the group's annual fall meeting.

Koch served as the council's president from 2010 until 2011, and served on the presidential transition team in 2008.  He last served on the board during the 2011-2012 school year.

Koch is in his ninth year of serving as state superintendent.
