Commercial fisherman arrested for allegedly selling live Asian carp

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Conservation Police say a commercial fisherman has been arrested for allegedly selling live Asian carp.

Police say Randall Watters was arrested last month.  On Tuesday, Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials said that Watters faces a felony charge of unlawful sale of live injurious species.

According to state Natural Resources Director Marc Miller, commercial fisherman play a big role in Illinois' attempts to control Asian carp

The possession and sale of live Asian silver and bighead carp is illegal, as officials are trying to prevent the species from spreading to the Great Lakes.  The carp compete with native species for food.
