Centennial's McDonnell Says 2014 Was His Last as Football Coach

CHAMPAIGN -- Longtime Centennial H.S. Football coach Mike McDonnell is retiring.

The school announced the news Wednesday afternoon, shortly after McDonnell met with the team.

According to Centennial athletic director Brian Easter, McDonnell's decision was a result of his desire to retire from teaching - he teaches physical education.

McDonnell coached the Chargers for 18 years, compiling a 103-72 record, which include 11 IHSA playoff appearances.

The coaching vacancy will be posted on the district website, as well as some other athletic websites within the next few days.
