SPRINGFIELD - As state lawmakers debate raising the minimum wage, supporters are making their making sure their voices are heard. Dozens demonstrated outside of the state capitol as lawmakers considered the latest proposal.
Under the modified measure, workers ages 18 and older will make a minimum wage of $10.00 an hour, beginning in July 2015. The minimum wage would jump once again, to $10.50 an hour in 2016 and to $11.00 per hour in 2017.
Illinois' minimum wage is currently $8.25 per hour, which is tied for 4th highest in the United States.
Thursday marks the final day of this week's veto session. Lawmakers will meet one more time during the first week of December.
