DECATUR - Five months after an explosion left a Decatur woman homeless, Dorothy Porter is close to being able to move into her new home.
A gas leak caused the house next to Porter's home to explode; as a result, Porter's home was damaged to the point of being uninhabitable.
Months after the old home was torn down, the new one is going up. The modular home was shipped in two pieces. Work on the home is scheduled to be complete in a couple weeks. Dorothy Porter will be able to move into her new home in December.
"Fortunately Dorothy had insurance. It would be a whole different story if she didn't have insurance," her friend, Tom Howard, said.
