EIU Women's Basketball Team Picks Up First Win

DENTON, Texas  (EIU Athletics)- Eastern Illinois trailed 26-16 at that half and needed overtime to pick up its first win of the season, a 59-57 victory at North Texas on Sunday afternoon.

EIU improved to 1-3 on the year and will host Northern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Lantz Arena.  North Texas fell to 0-4 on the year.

Senior Sabina Oroszova posted her second double-double of the year with 17 points and 15 rebounds.  It was the 20th double-double of her EIU career.

EIU took the lead with 2:08 left in regulation on a lay-up y Oroszova that put EIU up 51-50.   North Texas answered with a 3-pointer by Briesha Wynn who led all players with 19 points.

The score at the end of regulation was tied at 53-53.  Arnisha Thomas had three of the Panthers eight points in the overtime making a lay-up and one of two at the free throw line.   Thomas joined Oroszova in double figures for the Panthers with 11 points. 

Grace Lennox made one free throw with seven seconds remaining and EIU held on for the win.  Lennox had seven points and six assists.

BreAnna Dawkins had 12 points for UNT. 

EIU shot 45 percent for the game while limiting North Texas to 38 percent including 1-of-7 from the field in overtime.   EIU had 13 steals with Oroszova getting five.
