Springfield officials hold groundbreaking ceremony for playground

SPRINGFIELD - A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on November 25 for the new "Bounties of Nature" playground that will be built in Springfield's Center Park.

Springfield Mayor J. Michael Houston, City Water, Light & Power officials, and other city officials will attend the ceremony scheduled to take place at Center Park Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say the playground will feature new equipment and ground surface, which brings it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other current safety standards.  This construction project is being funded by donations, Water Division funds, and grants from The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln's Access to Recreation Endowment Fund, the Springfield Lake Shore Improvement Association, the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corporation, and the Council of Lake Springfield Clubs.
