Christian County authorities investigate infant death

Posted:
CHRISTIAN COUNTY - Christian County authorities say they are investigating the death of a one-month-old infant.

According to authorities, at about 10:33 a.m. on November 24, 911 received a call that a one-month-old was not breathing and unresponsive in the 100 block of Richardson Street in Kincaid.  Sutton Ambulance responded, and upon arriving requested the coroner be notified.  Deputy Coroner Bill Nation arrived on-scene, and pronounced the infant dead.

Christian County Coroner Amy Winans says preliminary autopsy results indicate the infant died of asphyxia which is consistent with co-sleeping.  Winans also says additional studies and toxicology will be available in a few weeks.  This incident continues to be investigated by the Christian County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
